YOUR BEHAVIORS OR PAST RESULTS DON’T DEFINE YOU AS A PERSON OR YOUR IDENTITY
🔥🔥 Understanding this point may prove to be life-changing for you, read till the end! 🔥🔥
When a person makes an attempt to do something in life and doesn’t get desired results, and instead of thinking that his ATTEMPT failed, he thinks that HE failed, then this kind of thinking may lead to a limiting belief that “I AM a failure” specially if it happens frequently.
Similarly, in a particular situation, a person may act in an unorganized manner and if instead of realizing that he behaved in an unorganized way, he thinks that “I AM an unorganized person”, he will continue to act in an unorganized manner throughout his life.
Our behaviors reflect our beliefs about ourselves and the way we identify ourselves. So, if I believe that I am a confident person, I will act and behave like one, if I believe that I am a good public speaker, I will behave like a good public speaker.
Similarly, if a person thinks that he is a failure, his behavior and personality will shape up according to this belief and he may do things in a half-hearted way, expecting another failure. And guess what happens when he does it in a half-hearted way? He doesn’t get the desired results, which further solidifies his belief that he is a failure and this vicious cycle continues. And the tricky thing about it is that he may not be doing so consciously but unconsciously!
That’s why it is very important to differentiate between a person’s identity and his behavior or results. Usually, most of us are very quick to give ourselves and others identities and labels based on certain behaviors or results. For example: “He is a liar” (NO, he lied). “I am an aggressive person”. (NO, you acted in an aggressive manner). Just imagine what can happen to your children or anyone else if you continuously label them with negative identities and they accept those identities consciously or unconsciously (e.g. you are vey shy, you are very lazy etc.).
The identities and the self-image we carry with ourselves shape up our personality and our life. So, if you want to succeed in life and make the most out of it, it’s very important to get rid of disempowering beliefs and identities, and develop positives ones.
